“People are like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed only if there is a light from within.”
— Elisabeth Kübler-Ross, M.D.

Debbie Maxwell Allen is an award-winning author of historical fiction–with a touch of the unexplainable. She explores quirky Mediterranean locations in the 18th century with moody tales of adventure and romance. Watch for her debut series in 2024.
Debbie lives high in the Rockies, accompanied by her force-of-nature husband, her yin-and-yang cats, and plenty of visits from her children and the most adorable grandchildren. She travels as often as she can–preferably by train–and always with a hot cup of tea.
What else?
Debbie Maxwell Allen grew up in Brooklyn, New York, living in a world of books and her imagination, never dreaming she could step out of her comfort zone. But she was wrong. Though shy and introverted, she pushed herself to choose experiences that stretched her: riding alone on the subway to Manhattan for art school, journeying far away to college, and traveling overseas.
Though she started writing in first grade, she never thought she could write anything longer than a short story. She was wrong about that too. Instead of reading about characters in other worlds and other time periods, she took control and created them herself.
Stepping outside herself has brought to life characters who do the same: choosing experiences that stretch them, proving that they are stronger than they know.

She attended the High School of Art & Design in Manhattan, where she continued crafting stories. After majoring in education at Columbia International University, she taught elementary school until she birthed a classroom of her own. She homeschooled her four children and started writing again when they asked her to teach them creative writing. She hasn’t looked back since.
